"Gnowangerup"
The name Gnowangerup is derived from the Aboriginal word "Ngow", meaning Malleefowl.
Gnowangerup has a lot of sites and vistas to discover. Depending of what you like, there is an attraction for everyone! Check out the many historical buildings around town, the Mineral Springs and the new updated Airstrip. Also a must see is the Machinery Museum on the corner of the Strathaven and Yougenup Road, the Steam Tractor in front of the Shire building, the Gnowangerup Historic Centre, the Old Gnowangerup Cemetary, the Wildflower Reserve and Mary's Rock. Don't miss the Merino Stud Field Days, the Act-Belong-Commit Gnowangerup Summer Fair, the Art Gallery and the Gnowangerup Sporting Complex & Pool.

Shire of Gnowangerup
The Shire of Gnowangerup is situated in the Great Southern area, approximately 354 kilometres from Perth and 140 kilometres from Albany via the Chester Pass Road.
It covers an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometres and is a prosperous grain growing and sheep producing area. The area is noted Australia wide for its merino sheep and attracts large crowds to the annual Stud Field Days.
